Opening form , who you are, in a nutshell.
I am a multidisciplinary artist based in North West London. Preferring fluid, organic and casual methods, such as painting and photo-montage, my approach to my practice is autobiographical.
Intentions and why
I Intermingle my own experiences with observations on race, class and cognitive dissonance to juxtapose the personal and the political. These perceptions are revealed through inadvertent conversations, and used to create the basis for paintings and storytellings. I then take time to pick out and reflect on the new-found fascinations, failings, and resentments surrounding these issues – often with an undertone of cathartic humour.
Form and how
I set out to to convey an odd sense of humility and self awareness of these issues in the form of my work, and I set out to achieve this by utilising found objects and referencing popular cultural media. My choice of images and narratives carry with them a significance, as they are made with the intimacy of the autobiographical, and an awareness of the intersections of a culturally nomadic identity.
Recent work, something memorable.
“Shitty Sequels” found objects, paintings on paper, 2018. A display cabinet containing a tea set, and the cases of 10 straight-to-DVD sequels, cutting across a wall displaying paintings. Addressing the way cultural inheritance interferes with personal experience, I encourage the viewer to explore beyond generic formal structures to observe obscured personal traumas.
Put a button on it
Ultimately, I want to discuss the problems of life, and have a good laugh in the process.
Smashed it.
